Evergreen content refers to information that remains relevant and valuable over an extended period, without becoming outdated. This type of content is timeless and does not lose its significance even as trends, seasons, or news cycles change.
Evergreen content continues to attract and engage audiences over time, making it a valuable asset for website owners, bloggers, and content creators.
3 Characteristics of evergreen content:
- Timelessness: The information provided is not tied to a specific date, event, or season, making it relevant year-round.
- Ever-Relevant Topics: Evergreen content focuses on subjects that are consistently of interest to the target audience, addressing common questions, issues, or needs.
- Evergreen Formats: While written articles are common, evergreen content can also be in the form of videos, infographics, tutorials, or guides that maintain their relevance.
Examples of evergreen content include:
- Educational Guides: How-to articles or tutorials on fundamental topics within your industry.
- FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions): Addressing common questions your audience may have.
- Product Reviews: Reviews of products or services that have enduring popularity.
- Educational Videos: Video content that explains concepts or demonstrates skills.
- Resource Lists: Compilations of valuable resources related to a particular subject
Creating evergreen content provides long-term value to your audience and can contribute to consistent traffic to your website. However, it’s essential to supplement evergreen content with timely and trending topics to keep your content fresh and engaging.
EXAMPLE: Evergreen content creation and keeping it fresh!
If you want to create your own evergreen content, here’s my example of an article outline and the process behind it. I have also included how to keep this evergreen content fresh with a trending topic:
This example is for an evergreen guide addressing a timeless topic: cat grooming, providing valuable information that remains relevant to cat owners regardless of the season or current trends.
Remember you will be using your own product or services, but the outline for the quick creation of impactful and useful content remains the same. Title, introduction, subtopics, and conclusion, with internal (on your own website) and sometimes external (to another website) weblinks.
Start with a topic idea:
“How to groom a cat” (as mine is currently sitting on my desk), then refine the title by adding focus key words for SEO, the title is now “The Ultimate Guide: How to Groom a Cat Like a Pro” or “The Comprehensive Guide to Grooming Your Cat”.
The title will depend on the demographic of your target audience, you can also use A/B Testing to see which title or content performs best (SEO, target audience demographics, and A/B Testing is a topic for another day, which I shall be posting soon).
Each section and subsection can be fleshed out with great SEO rich content, which can also include your product or affiliate links, and images.
You can use this outline in conjunction with a Pillar Content Strategy, which I explain here in the article: What is the Pillar Method for Content Creation?
In the Pillar Method article I have added variations of the content creation outline from below, so you can identify how different content is formed from the same main topic ideas.
The Pillar Method works very well with evergreen content and provides you with a plethora of value adding posts to distribute across many channels, such as Facebook, X, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and podcasts etc.
