So what is this Life Coaching you are talking about?
If you have not already heard or read so much about what coaching is, here I offer you my definition and how I apply this for my clients.
For me as a Coach, Life Coaching is not therapy although it can be therapeutic, much of what I have learnt incorporates the understanding of how and why we, as humans, behave the way we do, I do not diagnose or label you, it is about unconditional acceptance of you as my client and both being committed to clear communication and action.
Much of the work coaches do is forward facing, setting goals and together finding solutions to make the best of whatever it is that you have at your disposal right now and what steps you can take to reach those goals, and to gain more of what you do want in your life, for example, ditching limiting beliefs, we have to visit the past so that you can rewrite your life script and move forward. It is acting on the insight you gain during sessions and that is where a Coach comes in, giving you the support and tools to take that Action to move forward.
As with most things in life, one style does not suit all and the same applies to Coaching. I work from a Holistic Multidisciplinary Practitioner position and the saying “Good Thoughts, Good Words, Good Deeds” is one of the mantras I apply to working with clients.
Who needs a Life Coach?
Life coaching is a not a new concept, it has just been rebranded, as with our ever-interconnected world and new communications, the reach and pool of experienced professional coaches has grown. Before the modern Coaching phenomenon and our modern world, people would take on roles as Apprentices, learning from their Master, in any field, a more Mentoring Position. Then there is Philosophy, discovering the guiding principles for all behavior and delving into what thoughts are. Almost a fusion of Mentoring and Philosophy (and Psychology), Coaching equips you with the tools needed to achieve your goals and it challenges you to find your OWN solutions and meet your own challenges, it equips you with the tools needed to accomplish this.
The purpose of a life coach is to help you create a life that fulfils you.
Many lives have changed for the better, by the positive impacts a Coach has had on them, this is not from the mouth of coaches but rather our clients, stating the benefits of having a Coach and simply being given the support and time to reflect on any situation, in an unbiased environment and a push to challenge them to meet their goals.
Life Coaching can be great if you feel that you’re stuck and truly want to change.
If you recognise yourself in the points listed below or have you been trying to change your life but been unable to, a Life Coach is likely to make a huge difference in your life.
Consider your wants and your ability to bring the change about on your own. If you feel you could use some help, a Mungo Desi Life Coach might just be one of the best decisions you’ve ever made.
If you are considering hiring me as your Life Coach, these are some of the potential benefits, and how I can support you and help you gain clarity on:
- What do you want in life. Get clear on what you want, for and from your life. Design your ideal life and achieve self-actualisation.
- Raise your standards. Many challenges in our lives result from having set low standards, for ourselves. We may be too quick to settle, accepting first offers, from taking jobs that are beneath our capabilities or forming relationships that don’t serve us or encourage us to grow. Set strong boundaries which are clearly defined. Overcome these challenges and rewrite your standards.
- Accountability. If you decide on making a lifestyle, relationship or job change on your own and then you don’t follow through, you can shift the dates and sometimes never actually follow-through on commitment to the change. On the other hand, I shall keep you to the task. One reason this strategy works is because many of us find letting others down to be painful, we do not like to disappoint others. Most of us don’t like being in “trouble.” behaviour, when we are held accountable.
- Being balanced. We often focus on certain aspects of our lives, giving emphasise to certain areas and fail to give other areas enough emphasis. I can help drive you to give adequate attention to all areas of your life, thereby bringing balance.
- Stretch yourself. Some people never change, have you noticed that? They’re the same today as they were ten or more years ago. This is not growth, it is comfortable however; life is about learning and applying that learning to get better results and gain personal growth. If life is always the same, you are either not learning or not applying what you’ve learned, so you are not stretching yourself or mind to its best ability. Let me challenge you to do all the things you could be doing and want to be doing but can’t quite get yourself to do.
- Work through your challenges with expert support. Dealing with challenges can be intimidating. Having an expert in change and challenges in your corner, can make all the difference, to get unstuck. Sometimes all we need is a little encouragement and support. Two heads really can be better than one, one has the tools for change and the other, you have the power of change.
- Excited about your success. I am passionate about your successes and to cheer you on, this creates momentum and allows you to accomplish even greater things. Some people do not have this support around them, and having done something that fills them with pride, to find out that family, friends, or significant other seem less than impressed, can be a setback.
- Realise challenges. As Coaching is Future based (we covered that earlier on this page), unlike counselling which tends to look at the past, I am typically hired for a specific reason, often to move forward. Often though, through the process of coaching, you will find that there are other areas and challenges that might be just as important. I help you uncover these.
