Be Your Own Motivation. You Have Everything!
One of the fundamental presuppositions of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) revolves around the idea of resourcefulness; the belief that individuals possess everything they need to achieve their desired outcomes. This presupposition underscores the notion that both internal and external resources contribute to an individual’s ability to navigate challenges and create positive change in their lives.
Internal and External NLP Resources
Internal Resources:
- Innate Abilities: NLP recognises that each of us is equipped with innate abilities and potential waiting to be tapped into. This includes cognitive abilities, creativity, resilience, and emotional intelligence. By acknowledging, identifying, and harnessing these internal resources, you can enhance your problem-solving skills and adaptability.
- Beliefs and Values: The beliefs and values held by an you play a crucial role in determining your actions and decisions. NLP encourages you to explore and align your beliefs with your goals. By reshaping limiting beliefs and reinforcing empowering ones, internal resources are optimised for motivation and success.
- Emotional States: Emotions are powerful internal resources that greatly influence behaviour. NLP emphasises understanding and managing your emotions effectively. By cultivating positive emotional states, you can enhance your motivation, resilience, and overall well-being.
- Learning and Adaptability: The ability to learn and adapt is a significant internal resource. NLP promotes a growth mindset, encouraging you to view challenges as opportunities for learning and personal development. This mindset fosters a continuous process of improvement and adaptation.
External Resources:
- Social Support: External resources encompass the support and connections we have with others. NLP recognises the importance of social networks and encourages leveraging them for encouragement, collaboration, and sharing of knowledge. A supportive community can provide valuable external resources during challenging times.
- Knowledge and Information: Access to information and knowledge is a potent external resource. NLP emphasises the value of continuous learning. By seeking and acquiring relevant information, you can expand your understanding and make informed decisions, enhancing your problem-solving capabilities.
- Environmental Influences: The physical environment plays a role in shaping behaviour and mindset. NLP acknowledges the impact of external surroundings on internal states. Optimising your environment for productivity and positivity can contribute to your overall resourcefulness.
- Tools and Technology: External tools and technology are additional resources that can be harnessed for personal and professional development. NLP encourages you to explore and utilise relevant tools to enhance your efficiency, effectiveness, and overall capabilities.
By embracing the NLP presupposition that you have everything you need, both internally and externally, you can empower yourself to overcome challenges, set and achieve meaningful goals, and lead a fulfilling life.
This perspective encourages a holistic approach to personal development, recognising the interconnectedness of internal and external resources in the journey towards success.
Embracing NLP Presuppositions for Motivation
VIDEO Transcript:
When we look at the presuppositions of NLP or Neuro-Linguistic programming, as it’s known, there are things we suppose, presume, or believe beforehand, and one of these is the principle that there is no such thing as unresourceful people. There are only unresourceful states of mind. So, I fully agree with that.
When we make that choice to shift our perspective, we are shifting our focus or energy to a resourceful mind. So that is, recognising that we have the tools for change. It is motivational in itself, when we come to this realisation.
We cannot control all outcomes in life, but we can try to be prepared, or to control that which is in our scope of doing so. I do think that it’s the “TRY” factor, as often lack of trying can be linked to the fear of the outcome, or lack of faith in ourselves and the future, and when we can realise that trying is as good as achieving, no perceived failure can then set us back, as it is a challenge to adapt and change the goal posts.
Every experience is a learning about ourselves and others. Energy is a state of mind, believe in your own resourcefulness, and one of the dynamics of motivation is a manifestation of that state.
So, I hope you can take this forward today and try and have a look at what resources you have. Look back to the far past to when you were very resourceful and bring that to the now and see just how amazing things can be because you have EVERYTHING you need to achieve what you want to and need to achieve. It’s just a question of APPLICATION, getting that shift getting that into that ENERGY and moving forward from there.
